Janey Butler Interiors

2016 Interview with Janey Butler, Design Director

Why, how and when did you start JBI?
Janey Butler Interiors was born through the success of our award winning property development company Llama Developments. Llama Developments has been designing and building award winning architecture for over 20 years and the success of the projects and their interiors led us to forming Janey Butler Interiors. The last couple of years have been dedicated to travelling, research, meetings and searching for the very best international designers and suppliers that complement our existing, unique style and share the same work ethics/ethos. We have also been busy in renovating a stunning 300 year old stable building into our very own luxury destination interiors showroom, design studio & offices. Janey Butler Interiors started trading last September and has already been shortlisted for two International Design & Architecture Awards as well as securing some amazing residential and commercial interior architecture projects for 2016/17.

How would you describe a signature Janey Butler interior?

I am very much inspired by the beauty found in nature. Natural elements such as rare woods, petrified woods, stone & other such raw materials which are all totally unique and have a history embedded into their composition are what I love to introduce always into my design. I love soft calming colours and textures and this coupled with luxury design led pieces gives our interiors a very clever combination of tranquility and opulence.

Please tell us about your interior design track record
Janey Butler has grown rapidly since launching officially in August 2014. The company is fast building a reputation for innovative elegant design, quality and an unrivalled attention to detail. Our projects have already been featured in the National Press, such as features in both The Sunday Times and Mail on Sunday on Britain’s most coveted interiors. The company has also been added to ‘The List’ which was recently commissioned by Condé Nast’s House and Garden Magazine and features the best in the UK for interior design. Our projects have also attracted the attention of industry leaders and have been shorted listed for several international awards. In addition to this we can add the award of Best of Houzz for 2015 and 2016 to the ever growing list of accolades.

and about your favourite project so far
We have been involved in many amazing projects and all are totally unique and gorgeous in their own right. One of our favourites is a barn renovation set in the Cheshire countryside. To date this particular interior and renovation has gone on to win numerous architecture and design awards.

The barn had previously been converted into a residential dwelling. However, the conversion was unsympathetic and clumsy. The property was totally stripped back and a new stunning open plan family home was designed and created. A large extension was obtained through planning and the new design of the home took full advantage of the wonderful views and open countryside. A stunning sky frame window system gave the young family wonderful indoor-outdoor living. Rooms were flooded with natural daylight and the original features of the barn were respected and incorporated into the new design.

What is your next ‘dream’ interior design project like?

We love working on all interiors, but one such interior which we are very much looking forward to designing and creating this year is a beautiful beach house with an open plan feel, lots of natural light, elements such as drift woods, barn woods, stone, silks and linens. This lovely home is going to be the perfect place for our hard working professional clients to escape to, relax & enjoy with their family and friends, with lot of gorgeous calming colours, soft textures and beautifully natural materials.

What future trends may influence interior design in your market ?
We work very much in the luxury market. Our clients are very much focused on craftsmanship and quality. We find they like us to mix on trend materials, fabrics and colours with classic, iconic design led pieces to create a bespoke scheme which looks incredible and functions perfectly.

Why do you work with the Eric Kuster Metropolitan Luxury Collections?
Eric’s Metropolitan Luxury Collections are the “perfect balance of classic and contemporary” and alongside his stunning fabric ranges in a nutshell is why I love to work with Eric’s collection. The Metropolitan Luxury Collections are always elegant, timeless & sexy whilst incorporating the very latest in design led craftsmanship.

What in your opinion makes his interior design concept so special?
The level of detail which goes into each concept and project. He ensures that all the individual elements are perfect and carefully considered, which creates a faultless scheme. Craftsmanship is also key and is what makes his concepts timeless. His signature style is evident in his designs however, this does not detract from the individuality of each project.

What would you call an Eric Kuster Metropolitan Luxury ‘icon’ product?
Eric Kuster takes inspiration from many sources however, his passion for British cinema, the glamour of the 1960s and 70’s and the whole ‘retro-vibe’ means his collection is very strong and distinctive. I feel his sofa collection is ‘iconic’ and allows the client to feel luxurious, sexy and special.

Would you have a personal message to Eric Kuster and his team?
We simply love working with Eric & the Eric Kuster brand. Eric’s passion is contagious, he is a total gentleman and always has time for you. We have the utmost respect for the company ethos and the standard of the workmanship are all qualities which we share and admire. Eric’s Team are a delight to work with and they are always courteous, friendly and totally professional. We feel very proud and honoured to be part of the Eric Kuster brand and look forward to a long and happy working relationship with Eric and bringing the Eric Kuster style and design to many more of the beautiful future projects we have in the pipeline.
